BOTOX® Cosmetic, a purified protein, is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows in patients ages 18-65. BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the cause of these frown lines between the brows by reducing the muscle contractions (by blocking signals from the nerves to those muscles) that cause the lines to form over time.

BOTOX® Cosmetic Treatments to Reduce Frown Lines

During this treatment, very low doses of BOTOX® Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the muscles that cause those stubborn lines between the brows. Wrinkles, in turn, loosen over the course of a few days to a week, with the effects of the injection wearing off after about four months and treated lines and wrinkles returning within that time. Some patients may experience bruising after the treatment, however this is generally temporary. Patients are also encouraged to avoid alcohol, aspirin and anti-inflammatories immediately preceding the procedure. Currently, BOTOX® Cosmetic is not covered by insurance and is the only treatment of its type approved by the FDA for the temporary improvement of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows. Experienced BOTOX® Cosmetic specialist Dr. David J. Congdon and the Cedar Valley ASCENT, based in Waterloo, Iowa and serving the Cedar Valley, are highly experienced in providing these treatments and look forward to helping you look and feel, your best.
