Lifestyle Modifications

Conservative treatments for less-severe cases include weight loss, nasal sprays, and smoking cessation.

Ventilation Machines

For moderate sleep apnea, CPAP or BiPAP machines used during sleep can help clear obstructed tissue and promote breathing.

Corrective Surgery

In the most severe cases, surgery is performed to correct the breathing obstruction causing the condition.

Botox

BOTOX® Cosmetic, a purified protein, is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows in patients ages 18-65. BOTOX® Cosmetic treats the cause of these frown lines between the brows by reducing the muscle contractions (by blocking signals from the nerves to those muscles) that cause the lines to form over time.

IPL Photofacial

Unsightly leg veins can be a problem for millions of men and women. One type of leg vein issue is varicose veins, which are enlarged vessels that have widened as a result of weakness in the vein wall, which stretches and bulges. Spider veins, another issue, are the small superficial purple or red veins stretching like a web under the skin. Rosacea and sun damage are also issues that affect a person’s face, causing redness and other discoloration. IPL Photofacial treatments from the Cedar Valley Center for Rejuvenation and Dr. David J. Congdon can help address these issues and give you healthy-looking skin.

Skin Resurfacing

Skin abnormalities such as wrinkles, acne scars, and pigmentation issues can result from age, genetics and sun, and skin can also become looser over time. If you want to improve your skin’s appearance, skin rejuvenation or resurfacing may be right for you. Dr. Congdon can help bring a smoother, clearer and more youthful appearance to your skin through skin resurfacing treatments provided by the Cedar Valley Center for Rejuvenation. These treatments include chemical peeling, laser surgery or dermabrasion, which can form part of a multifaceted approach to treating your specific skin issues.

Acne Scars

Severe acne can lead to serious and permanent scarring. Even less-severe cases can lead to scarring when left untreated. Acne scars occur when an acne lesion becomes so badly infected that it becomes a cyst that is located deep in the skin. When left untreated, these deep lesions can lead to an acne scar, which can appear as pitted areas or flattened areas of scarring that leave the skin’s surface uneven in appearance. They can be lighter in color or reddened in appearance compared to the surrounding skin and can become more prominent with age.

Spider Veins

Spider veins are small, enlarged, superficial blood vessels that commonly arise on the legs, but frequently occur on the face or other parts of the body. The appearance of spider veins varies widely from patient to patient. They can be red or blue, and they may look like a spider web or a tree with branches. The veins may be short, unconnected lines, each about the size of a large hair, or they may be connected in a matted “sunburst” pattern. Additionally, the veins can be small and inconspicuous or cover a large area of skin. Regardless of their appearance, they can affect a person’s confidence and cause uncomfortable itching, cramping and heaviness in the legs.

Rosacea

Often referred to as adult acne, rosacea causes redness and swelling on the face. This common skin disease may begin as a tendency to flush or blush easily and then progress to persistent redness in the center of the face. This redness may gradually involve the cheeks, forehead, chin, and nose, and possibly the ears, chest and back. As the disease progresses, small blood vessels and tiny pimples begin to appear on and around the reddened area. While the exact cause of this skin disease is unknown, the Cedar Valley Center for Rejuvenation and Dr. David J. Congdon offer a variety of rosacea treatments, including in-office and at-home methods that can help you reduce rosacea symptoms and control the disease.

Laser Hair Removal

Many people have unwanted hair on their face, legs, back, and other body areas. Despite trying other treatment methods, this hair often returns, requiring additional hair removal, as well as time and expense. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology from Dr. David J. Congdon and the Cedar Valley Center for Rejuvenation offers a non-invasive way to remove unwanted hair, requiring little time commitment for the procedure or recovery. Best of all, this treatment is long-lasting, meaning you can get the look you want without multiple procedures!

Intensive Skin Care

Your skin needs can change with age, including throughout a given calendar year. That’s why the Cedar Valley Center for Rejuvenation and Dr. David J. Congdon offer a variety of intensive skin care treatments to help your skin feel, and look, refreshed, renewed and vibrant.

Restylane

Restylane© is the first and only cosmetic dermal filler made of non-animal-based hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance that already exists in the human body and is used to provide volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane© is a crystal-clear gel called NASHA or non-animal-stabilized hyaluronic acid, which is biodegradable and completely biocompatible with human hyaluronic acid. Restylane© has been used in more than one million treatments in more than 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles, reduce the effects of aging, and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips, and it’s available from the Cedar Valley Center for Rejuvenation and Dr. David J. Congdon.

Juvéderm

Juvéderm® is a nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment for nasolabial folds (also known as smile lines) and other facial wrinkles available at the Cedar Valley Center for Rejuvenation from Dr. David J. Congdon. Typically injected into the cheek, facial tissue, lip, or perioral (the lower third of face) areas, Juvéderm® uses hyaluronic acid to add volume to the skin (as opposed to more traditional collagen-based injections). Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the human body and is modified for use in Juvéderm®, allowing the treatments to augment lips, eliminate wrinkles, and smooth out facial folds and provide a greater facial volume and fullness.

Sun-Damaged Skin

Sun damage, also known as photo aging, is caused by ultraviolet (UV) light from the sun and is the cause of most of the changes we associate with aging of the skin. In addition to premature aging of the skin, sun damage also increases your risk of skin cancer. Exposure to the sun accumulates over your lifetime and causes the skin to show the signs of aging prematurely. Age spots, sun-induced freckles, sagging skin, wrinkling and blemishes of benign brown pigment are evidence of sun damage. With sun damage, the skin becomes thicker and rougher, loses its elasticity, and develops uneven pigmentation.

Cervical Liposuction

Cervical liposuction is clinically one of the most-rewarding procedures in aesthetic surgery. With a short, low-risk, and relatively inexpensive procedure, the Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery and performing surgeon Dr. Congdon assist patients in achieving a dramatic change in their appearance. The procedure is not time-consuming or highly invasive and it yields lasting results in the form of fat reduction and involves a relatively short recovery time. With cervical liposuction, you can achieve the defined look you want.

Forehead Lift

A person’s age is often reflected in his or her face, with such changes often being most prominent in the brow and forehead of the face beginning in your thirties. These aging signs take the forms of wrinkle and frown lines, looser skin, and more-pronounced eyebrows, and are just some of the reasons people may want to pursue forehead lift surgery. Dr. Congdon understands all the reasons why patients wish to minimize the visible effects of aging and offers an endoscopic forehead lift procedure to create a smoother overall facial appearance.

Midface Lift

People with dark circles under the eyes or folds in front of their cheeks may be the perfect candidates for a midface lift procedure, which addresses signs of aging in the areas near the cheeks and eyelids. During a midface lift, the fat section located in the cheek is raised to provide a more full, taut appearance to the mid-section of the face and help the patient to appear younger. Dr. Congdon and the Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery can help you achieve a look that is natural and refreshed through our endoscopic midface lift procedure.

Lip Augmentation

You can have a fuller, more-sensuous mouth with lip augmentation. Through this cosmetic procedure, a filler composed of hyaluronic acid is injected into your lips and in the area around your mouth to provide more shape, structure and volume. This produces a longer-lasting, less-noticeable lip augmentation that involves less bruising and a reduced risk of allergic reactions as compared to other approaches to augmentation. A lip augmentation procedure from the Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery and Dr. David J. Congdon can help patients experience a greater sense of confidence and draw attention to their smiles.

Ear Surgery

The need to cosmetically reshape a person’s ears through an ear surgery procedure, known as otoplasty, can arise from several factors, including ear protrusion and size abnormalities (such as overly large ear lobes, lop ear ((where the ear is angled forward while the tip folds downward), and ears with missing components, known as shell ear). Prior to cosmetic ear surgery, you will discuss with your facial plastic surgeon the reason you are pursuing the procedure, as well as your goals for the surgery, potential complications and the likely recovery time frame. Insurance coverage is also an important consideration for this surgery, as it may depend upon whether the surgery is addressing a functional ear issue (such as a hearing impairment or deformity) rather than solely for cosmetic reasons. The procedure can be performed in several different ways, however the ability to reconstruct an ear requires thorough comprehension of the structure. Dr. David J. Congdon of the Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery has extensive experience with ear surgery and significant knowledge of the ear’s underlying structure, and he uses innovative techniques to provide ear reconstructions that are cosmetically appealing. Ear surgery is generally an outpatient procedure that requires some lifestyle adjustments immediately following surgery and that otherwise heals within a few weeks.

Chin and Cheek Implants

Patients undergo chin and cheek implant surgeries in order to redefine and enhance certain facial features such as their cheeks or jaw lines, often for cosmetic reasons or sometimes due to a facial reconstruction need arising from a prior surgery. Prior to the surgery (whether the patient is receiving implants for the chin, cheek, or both), all patients will meet with their plastic surgeons to discuss realistic expectations for the procedure and which facial areas they are seeking to enhance and their reasons for doing so. Prominent cheek bones and a strong chin provide balance and definition, and Dr. Congdon of the Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery is committed to helping define and enhance your self-confidence through chin and cheek implant surgeries. Both surgeries are outpatient procedures that require a generally shorter recovery time frame, after which normal activities can be resumed.

Nasal Surgery

Nasal surgery, or rhinoplasty, is commonly performed for several reasons, including to correct breathing issues, address trauma or birth-induced disfigurement, or for cosmetic reasons. Recreating the human nose is possibly one of the most difficult challenges facing reconstructive surgeons, and Dr. David J. Congdon of the Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery understands it is one of the most important structures on the body for facial identity and appearance. Choosing to undergo nasal surgery is an important process, as is deciding on the structure and shape of your new nose. Dr. Congdon will discuss your goals for the surgery as well as facial areas to be enhanced and surgical risks, recovery and costs. Once rhinoplasty surgery is complete, patients often recover over a multi-week period, after which they are able to return to normal activities without prominent indicators that they underwent nasal surgery.

Eyelid Rejuvenation

Eyelid rejuvenation, known as blepharoplasty, seeks to improve the patient’s eyes by eliminating excess skin around the eyes and creating a more distinct appearance in the eyelid area. The procedure to address lower eyelid issues involves reducing appearances of puffiness and additional skin, including wrinkles that may exist. Blepharoplasty offers smoother, more-natural skin around the patient’s eyes and a noticeable and remarkable improvement in your overall appearance. Dr. Congdon of the Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery is a sculptor whose goal is to rejuvenate your face to give you natural-looking results.

Facelift

As we get older, the skin and muscles associated with our face and neck tend to wrinkle and sag, creating a more aged appearance. While a surgical facelift procedure cannot stop aging, reverse sun damage to skin, or remove all facial wrinkles, it allows patients to achieve a more youthful look. The Cedar Valley Center for Facial Plastic Surgery and Dr. David J. Congdon offer a specialized facelift procedure to help you improve the look of your face and neck—and your confidence.
